A CHRISTMAS LIKE NO OTHER
"Christ our Saviour is born to His mother
Worship with us this Christmas like no other"
Now that we will be allowed to resume public worship in our church from Wednesday 2nd December, we are able to plan our services and events for Advent and Christmas.
It won’t be like any Christmas which we have ever had before; some events can take place in the church, some will have to be streamed on Zoom, and some may even be on both!
Here’s the programme:
-
29th November – Advent Sunday Carol Service on Zoom
-
13th December – Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols in the church
-
20th December – Singalong Christmas carols on Zoom
-
24th December – Zooming Christingle and Digital Nativity
-
24th December – Christmas Eve Mass in the church and on Zoom
-
24th December – Midnight Mass on Zoom
-
25th December – Christmas Day Crib service in the church and on Zoom
-
26th December – Morning Prayer and St Stephen's Day Mass on Zoom
All events in the church will be subject to the same restrictions as before – social distancing must be maintained, hand sanitiser must be used, and masks must be worn. Capacity is limited to 30 people including clergy, and the door will be closed when we are full. We will not be using a booking scheme.
Please see this guidance sheet for more information.
Here are the full details:
29th November
Advent Sunday Carols
6:30pm on Zoom
A traditional Advent carol service with reflections on choral music presented by Peter Wright, a British organist and former Director of Music at Southwark Cathedral from 1989 to summer 2019.
He was educated at Highgate School, the Royal College of Music and Emmanuel College Cambridge, where he served as organ scholar between 1973 and 1976.
Peter is a member of St Michael's congregation.

13th December
Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols
6:00pm in the church
The traditional service of nine lessons and carols for the third Sunday in Advent.
This will have to be scaled down from our usual festival.
There will be no choir, and communal singing is still not allowed.
Readings from volunteers will introduce live organ music or recorded choral pieces.
This service will NOT be streamed on Zoom.
20th December
Singalong Christmas Carols
6:00pm on Zoom
A lighthearted chance to belt out all your Christmas favourites in the comfort of our own home via zoom.
Mute yourself and sing like nobody's listening – ‘cause they're not!
We also encourage you to wear tinsel, Santa hats and whatever Christmassy stuff you like! Let's get festive!
Requests in advance please to Father Steven priest@smmh.org.uk.

In these difficult times, we are doing our best to ensure that everyone can have access to celebrations at St Michael’s church, whether it be in person or online.
It is really important that nobody feels compelled to attend worship in church.
Please make a decision that is right for you and your individual needs.
We wish you a happy Christmas, even though it is like no other.
We are unable to pass round the collection plate during services, but if you would like to make a contribution, you can do so here:
See our page about Stewardship during COVID to see other ways in wich you can help.
